Watchmen ( Film ) Coming Soon...
Watchmen is an upcoming 2009 American superhero film that adapts Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1986 comic book limited series of the same name. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film adaptation stars Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Matthew Goode, Stephen McHattie and Carla Gugino. Set in an alternate 1985, the film follows a group of former vigilantes as tensions heighten between the United States and the Soviet Union. The film began shooting in Vancouver in September 2007 for release on March 6, 2009. As with his previous film 300, Snyder closely modeled his storyboards on the comic, but he chose not to shoot all of Watchmen using chroma key and opted for more sets.
Following the series' publication, the film adaptation was mired in development hell. Producer Lawrence Gordon began developing the project at 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. with producer Joel Silver and director Terry Gilliam, the latter eventually deeming the complex novel unfilmable. During the 2000s, Gordon and Lloyd Levin collaborated with Universal Studios and Paramount Pictures to produce a script by David Hayter (who set it in modern times). Darren Aronofsky and Paul Greengrass were attached to Paramount's project, before it was canceled over budget disputes. The project returned to Warner Bros., where Snyder was hired to direct (Paramount remained as international distributor). Fox is now suing Gordon for failing to pay a buy-out in 1991, which enabled him to develop the film at the other studios.
A DVD based on elements of the Watchmen universe will be released; it will include an animated adaptation of the comic Tales of the Black Freighter within the story, starring Gerard Butler, and the documentary Under the Hood, detailing the older generation of superheroes from the film's back-story. An extended edition of the film, with Tales of the Black Freighter interspersed through the main storyline in a manner reminiscent of the comic, is forthcoming.

A pig that survived 36 days buried in the rubble
Sunday December 21, 2008
Grumpy miracle pig voted China's most popular animal
BEIJING (Reuters) - A pig that survived 36 days buried in the rubble of May's massive Sichuan earthquake has been voted China's favourite animal, but the attention has made him fat, lazy and bad-tempered, state media said.
The hog, trapped in a sty after the 7.9 magnitude quake, was bought by a local businessman who was moved by its ordeal and named "Zhu Jianqiang", or "Strong Pig".

It survived by eating charcoal and drinking rainwater.
Now it has been voted top of an online poll of animals "who moved China" this year, the weekend edition of the China Daily said.
Other top animals included a dog that guarded its elderly owner when he was sick and accompanied him to hospital, and a cat that almost died of grief when its partner was run over by a car.
The pig "vividly illustrated the spirit of never giving up," the report cited the webmasters who ran the poll as saying.
People come from all over to see the pig at its new home in a museum, the newspaper said, but it was becoming increasingly spoiled and ungrateful.
"It's gotten fatter and lazier by the day," it quoted staff as saying. "We used to take it out for a walk every morning and afternoon, but it's too lazy -- and too fat -- to do it."
And the pig is getting fed up with visitors, after initially being quite friendly.
"Now it just blocks the door to its bedroom when there are too many visitors outside. It's been increasingly difficult for us to convince it to open the door," the report said.

Burglar who pick the wrong house - Part 2
Grocery shop owner brushes off claims of sorcery
By R.S.N. MURALI
KEMAMAN: The owner of a house in which a starving burglar claimed he was trapped has brushed off any claims of sorcery.
Grocery shop owner Che Ibrahim Che Abdullah instead believes it was punishment from the Almighty for the burglar who claimed he was mysteriously trapped in the shop for three days.
The 57-year-old Che Ibrahim said he was a constant victim of burglaries whenever he and his wife returned to their village in Selising, Kelantan.
Mystified owner: Che Ibrahim gesturing as he speaks to reporters at his shop in Kemaman on Monday.
“This time, I asked for divine intervention as I could no longer tolerate it,” he said when met here.
He said he had recited some prayers before leaving for Kelantan with his 52-year-old wife to celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha.
Last Friday, Che Ibrahim returned to his shop and found the 36-year-old man lying in a room, starving and dehydrated.
The man, who begged for forgiveness, claimed he had broken into the house-turned-grocery shop three days earlier.
Upon entering the shop, the man claimed he was immediately blinded and the place felt like a cave.
“Each time I wanted to flee, I felt a ‘supernatural figure’ shoving me to the ground,” he told police during interrogation later.
He added he had no choice but to stay put in the room for three days as his shouts for help were in vain.
Meanwhile, Kemaman Deputy police chief Supt Abdul Marlik Hakim Johar said the burglar had been warded at the Kemaman Hospital for the last four days.
It is learnt that the burglar was still traumatised after the incident.

Shoe Thrower Gets Award!
Libyan group gives shoe-throwing reporter award
TRIPOLI (Reuters) - The Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at U.S. President George W. Bush was given a bravery award on Monday by a Libyan charity group chaired by leader Muammar Gaddafi's daughter.
The charity group Wa Attassimou also urged the Iraqi government to release television reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi after he was detained on Sunday for hurling footwear at Bush and calling the president a "dog" -- both severe insults in the Middle East.

"Waatassimou group has taken the decision to give Muntazer al-Zaidi the courage award ... because what he did represents a victory for human rights across the world," the group, headed by Aicha Gaddafi, said in a statement.
The group said the Iraqi authorities should honour the journalist for his actions.
Zaidi, accused by the Iraqi government of a "barbaric and ignominious act" will be tried on charges of insulting the Iraqi state, said the Iraqi prime minister's media advisor, Yasin Majeed.
Arab and Iran TV stations have gleefully replayed the footage of the incident, which for many in the region was seen as a fittingly furious comment on what they view as Bush's calamitous Middle East legacy.
Aicha, a lawyer by training, was fiercely opposed to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. She offered to defend Saddam Hussein after his capture by U.S. forces from an underground hideout at the end of 2003.
After years of tension between Libya and the United States there have been recent signs that ties between the two countries are warming.
